Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)

The Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) provides Medicare beneficiaries unbiased information and counseling about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and long-term care insurance through trained volunteer counselors certified by the North Carolina Department of Insurance.  Support is provided through group educational sessions, one-on-one appointments, and phone consultations.   

Eligibility Requirements to Receive SHIIP Assistance: 

• Current Medicare beneficiaries and/or their designated representatives with written consent from their beneficiaries
• Individuals eligible to enroll in Medicare

Eligibility Requirements for Volunteers: 

• SHIIP volunteers must complete 13 hours of training, provide service annually and attend quarterly meetings
• Perform SHIIP outreach activities to inform/educate the community about the service
• May not be or have an immediate family member who is an active insurance salesperson
